Herbalist appears before court for an alleged murder

Suhum, Oct. 13, GNA - An 88-year-old herbalist, Ayishetu Skidu has appeared before a Suhum District Magistrate's court on a provisional charge for murder.

Her plea was not taken but granted 50 million cedis bail with two sureties to be justified on grounds of ill health and old age to re-appear on Thursday November 2.

Police Chief Inspector J. A. Gurah, told the court that the deceased, Lucy Ofosu Ama 22, popularly called Akowah lived in the same community with the accused at Suhum New Town.

He said the deceased who was pregnant for a month, approached the accused on September 15, this year to abort the pregnancy. The prosecution said the accused gave the deceased two concoctions, a liquid and powder to drink to abort the pregnancy. He said the deceased drank the concoction and two days later started bleeding, she was rushed to Suhum Government Hospital where she died soon after admission.

The prosecution said a report was made to the police the accused was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
