House boy and accomplices get 85 years for robbing mistress

Kwabena Boadi, a houseboy who invited his two friends to rob his mistress at gun point at Nungua, was on Monday sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by an Accra circuit court.

His accomplices, Henry Adu and Kwaku Addai, both clobbers who carried out the robbery, were sentenced to 30 years imprisonment each.

This was after the court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri, had found them guilty on the charges of conspiracy to rob and robbery.

The court noted that the accused persons did not have mercy on the complainant hence did not deserve any mercy from the court.

According to the court, the conduct of Boadi was bad and was likely to jeopardise the chances of other youth who would like to be houseboys.

Prosecution said the complainant was Ms Rebecca Ofori-Kuragu, a restaurant operator at Spintex, Accra, while Boadi was the complainant’s houseboy.

Adu and Addai are residents of Teshie.

On May 27, last year, at about 12:40 am while the complainant had closed from work and was entering her house with her 12 year old daughter, Adu and Addai, armed with knives and toy pistols, entered the house and attacked her.

Addai and Adu managed to collect the complainant’s sales of GH¢ 1,400 cedis after inflicting knife wounds on her and snatching her daughter’s HTC mobile phone and bolted.

On May 29 last year, at about 0900 hours, the police, on a tip off, heard that Adu and Addai were offering for sale the HTC mobile phone, hence some policemen disguised themselves in a bid to purchase the phone at a barbering shop at Teshie.

The police arrested them at the barbering shop and retrieved the phone which the complainant identified as the one she bought for her daughter.

On May 30, last year, the victims identified the convicts as their attackers. During police investigations, it came to light that it was Boadi who gave Adu and Addai information to come to her mistress’ house to rob her because she was maltreating him.

Further investigations revealed that the convicts had GH¢ 300 cedis each as their share.

All the convicts in their caution statements admitted agreeing and planning to rob the complainant.
