Househelp jailed 5 years for stealing $2,100.

Tema, March 07, GNA -- A thirty-five year old house help was on Tuesday sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Tema Circuit Court 'B' for stealing his master's 2,100 dollars.

The court, presided over by Mr Nicholas Mensah Abodakpi convicted Francis Agbodo on his own plea of guilty to two charges of unlawful entering and stealing.

Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor said, for the past four years the accused has been residing with Mr Neneyo Martey Korley the complainant and his family at their residence at Parakou Estates near Tema.

The prosecutor indicated that early February 2006, the complainant who had changed an amount of 25 million cedis to 2,100 dollars to travel to Malaysia went out with his wife living their two children with the accused.

Chief Inspector Nutakor further said the accused took advantage of the absence of the couple, entered their room and stole the money which was in a wallet in their wardrobe.

The facts stated that, when the accused was confronted on the missing money, he denied stealing it and complainant therefore reported the case to the community 18 police on March 1, 2006.

She said a search in the accused person's room by the police revealed two mobile phones and a photograph of the complainant and his wife, which was placed where the money was kept.

The accused then confessed stealing the money and using it to purchase building materials for a house he was building at Ofankor, therefore it could not be retrieved.

Prosecutor said the police then went to the building site with the accused and took pictures of the building.
