Nyinahin (Ash), Nov. 11, GNA - A 26 year old housewife was on Thursday fined two million cedis by a magistrate's court at Nyinahin for assaulting a woman who was three months pregnant.

Akua Kwartemaa, who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for eight months in default for the assault on Akua Amponsah, at Nnipankyeremia near Adiembra.

The court further ordered the accused to pay 300,000 cedis as compensation to the victim and in addition was bonded over to be of good behaviour for six month or in default serve three months in prison. Police Inspector Raphael Dan-Mensah told the court that both the complainant and accused lived at Nnipankyeremia but were not on speaking terms.

He said the Unit Committee had employed the complainant as an attendant at the local Day Care Centre, which the children of the accused attended.

Inspector Dan-Mensah said on September 22 this year after school, the children informed their mother that the complainant did not serve them with food for which she had paid.

He said on hearing this, the accused became furious and went to the complainant's house and attacked her but she was restrained. Not happy with being restrained from attacking the complainant Inspector Dan-Mensah said, the accused ambushed the complainant while she was on her way to the refuse dump and beat her up mercilessly. He said a report was made to the police who arrested her and after investigations charged her with the offence.
