Husband and wife arrested for wee trafficking

The Agona Nyakrom Police Patrol team has arrested a 30-year-old driver and his wife for attempting to transport two bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp on the Agona Swedru/Akim Oda road.

Kofi Adu and his wife, Adisa Tanko, 25, from Mankessim, were busted at Teacher Okai in the Agona East District.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Nana Asomah Hinneh, the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, told journalists at Agona Swedru on Tuesday that the couple was transporting the leaves from Koforidua to Mankessim.

He said on September 14, a police team on patrol spotted a taxi, and when the team flagged it to stop, the driver and the two suspects fled into the bush.

ACP Asomah Hinneh said with the assistance of people of the community, Kofi Adu and his wife were arrested; when the boot of the cab was searched, two bags containing the dried leaves were found.

He said Kofi Adu claimed ownership of the stuff.
