A witness in the trial of the 43-year old ex-security guard of Unicorn Credit yesterday told an Accra Circuit Court how he narrowly escaped with his seven months old baby from the hands of a six man robbery gang.

Seth Boampong, a security guard who was the second prosecution witness in the case in which Gad Azankoto is standing trial for allegedly stealing 10 air conditioners belonging to the GNA worth GHc45,000 said the accused was wearing the security uniform of the company.

Led in evidence by Chief Inspector Edward Afful, Boampong stated that the accused knocked on his door and threatened to shoot him if he failed to open the door of the security rest house.

According to the witness, he was in one of the rooms allocated to the security guards with his wife and 7 months old baby stressing that he heard the struggle between Felix Osei, a co- security guard and Gad but managed to escape with his wife and child.

He further told the court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh that whilst he and his family ran for their dear lives, the robbery gang loaded the air conditioners from the warehouse into a truck.

Wisdom Amegah, in cross examination said the witness got to know Gad on the day of the incident.

Sitting continues today.

Earlier, Osei told the court how he was attacked by the robbers who inflicted machete wounds on him.

The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Afful indicated that the accused and five accomplices currently at large on August 6, 2015 conspired and robbed the warehouse of Unicorn Credit at Klagon near the Tema Motorway in Accra and made away with the air conditioners.

He said at about 1:30am on the said day, the men including the accused armed with AK47 rifle and five cutlasses attacked the witnesses at the warehouse.

He said the other security man escaped leaving Osei, a day security guard who was sleeping in their resting office.

Chief Inspector Afful stated that Osei struggled with the robbers but he was overpowered and butchered by the gang.

The police officer said the robbers tied Osei with a rope and dragged him about 300 metres and left him at the main gate and broke into a 40 footer container in the warehouse with a cutter and stole the air conditioners belonging to GNA.
