I was drunk, Trader prays court

Jonathan Armah, a trader on Friday prayed a Circuit Court in Accra to pardon him over a charge of attempted to robbery because he was drunk.

According to Armah, because of the Christmas festivity he took some alcohol and he realised at the police cells that he had committed a big mistake, which he would never repeat again.

Armah is said to have conspired with one Joe, now at large to rob Mr Bernard Amankwah of his taxi at La on December 28, last year.

He pleaded guilty and denied that he wanted to rob the complainant of his vehicle rather we (Armah and Joe) wanted to avoid paying him his fare.

However the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri after listening to Armah’s explanation entered a plea of not guilty for him and remanded him to reappear on January 18.

Even after the next case for the day had been called, Armah who spoke in Ga continued to beg the judge to forgive him.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.A. Morkeh said the complainant was a driver.

At about 0300 hours on December 28, Armah and Joe charted the complainant’s vehicle from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to La. The complainant charged them GHc 7.00. On reaching a section at La, near Lantey Djan, a struggle ensued between the complainant and the accused persons who held the neck of the complainant. Due to the struggle, prosecution said the vehicle landed into a ditch.

Prosecution said the complainant shouted for help and witnesses round apprehended Armah while Joe his accomplice escaped.
