A 22-year-old Gabonese has been apprehended by the New Weija police for allegedly murdering a 24- year-old Ivorian student.

The suspect, John Meviane, a student at Ambassador University College at Lapaz, a suburb of Accra, is said to have stabbed Medeline Josian E. Souadou to death in her room.

Briefing the media, Chief Superintendent Paul Kontoma, Accra Regional Crime Officer, said the police had a distress call that someone was being lynched by a mob at Moses Down, near One Plus One Spot, claiming that he had gone into somebody’s room to steal a laptop.

He said that the timely intervention of the police rescued the suspect from the hands of the rampaging mob who had wanted instant justice.

Chief Superintendent Kontoma stated that a search conducted on John revealed a kitchen knife with blood stains.

According to the Accra Regional Crime Officer, the deceased was found in her room with knife wounds on the neck, hands and abdomen.

He said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Korle-Bu Hospital awaiting autopsy.
