Akyem Swedru, June 08, GNA - An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Friday sentenced Kwame Agyei, unemployed to eight years imprisonment in hard labour on his own plea for stealing items from Christ Jesus Fire Ministry Church at Akyem Achiase.
Two other accomplices are on the run.
Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr Justice Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that on May 23, this year, at about 1500 hours Akyem Swedru police had information that Agyei was offering some items for sale in the town. He said a team of policemen dispatched to the scene arrested Agyei who confessed and informed the police that they stole the items from the church at Akyem Achiase.
The prosecutor said Agyei led the police to a house at Akyem Swedru where two speakers and an amplifier were retrieved. He said Agyei led police again to a cocoa shed at Akyem Oda where another pair of speakers concealed in a white calico was retrieved, after that he took the police to the church where they stole the items at Akyem Achiase.
The prosecutor said it was after leaders of the church had been informed about the theft that they realised that the boxes containing the speakers were empty.
He said a microphone, which the thieves forcibly removed were found damage and abandoned in the church and also made away with a large plastic container, a wall clock, a communion cup and additional two speakers.
