Jailed for mining in a forest reserve

Tarkwa, Dec 24, GNA - Kwaku Adusa, 21, has been jailed two years for undertaking illegal mining in Bonsa Forest Reserve in the Wassa West District.

A Tarkwa circuit court presided over by Mr John Aject Nasam sentenced him on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Jonathan Adotey of Tarkwa police said illegal mining had been going on in the forest reserve and causing havoc to the environment.

He said the complainant, Alice Okyere Danqua, a range supervisor of Forestry Services Division (FSD) informed the Police upon a tip-off. Chief Inspector Adotey said Alice and her colleague Bright Owusu Sekyere in the company of three policemen were detailed to intensify patrols in the forest where Adusah was arrested.
