Jakosa Gardens' robbers remanded

Sunyani, July 28, GNA - The Sunyani Magistrate Court has remanded into prison custody four suspected armed robbers, who allegedly attacked and killed a watchman at the Jakosa Gardens Restaurant in Sunyani, about a fortnight ago.

The suspects, Kwabena Faforme, Ali Kusase, alias Taller, Kwasi Dery and Kwame Gyamfi, all unemployed, were charged with conspiracy, robbery and murder.

Their plea was not taken and would reappear on August 30, 2006. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Tei Boison told the court presided over by Mr Albert Zoogah that the accused, who had no permanent places of abode on July 12, 2006 at about 16.30 hours, stormed the restaurant and attacked the late Mr Amos Abenga, the night watchman. He said the accused tied both hands and legs of the deceased and strangled him to death and then broke into the main bar and stole a sound system, a half bag of rice and assorted drinks.

The prosecutor said a watchman at a nearby Tropical Hotel heard the presence of the accused at the restaurant and raised an alarm, which attracted some policemen, who came and arrested Faforme. His accomplices escaped but were later apprehended by the police at different locations.
