Judicial service staff arrested for fraud

The Osu District Police have apprehended Abdul Ramani Salami of the Judicial Service for allegedly defrauding a victim to the tune of GHc33,000 under the pretext of selling six auction cars of the service to him.

He was apprehended after he failed to deliver the said vehicles to the victim.

Abdul Ramani, 47, has subsequently been charged with defrauding by false pretenses by the police.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, ASP Appeatu Adabo Frikye, the Osu District Crime Officer, said the incident occurred on August 15, 2015.

The victim, who is a businessman and hails from Bawku in the Upper East region, told the police that Salami on August 15, 2015 put out an advertisement that Judicial Service was auctioning six vehicles and that interested persons should contact him.

Upon hearing the news, the victim contacted the suspect for inspection of the said cars.

Suspect then led the victim to the premises of the Judicial Service Training School at Cantonments where the said vehicles with registration numbers GT4417-09, GR1313 V, GR1305 V, GR1323 V, GR1301 V and GE736 W had been parked with inscription ‘dully approved for auction.’

Suspect Salami then collected the said amount from the victim and promised to deliver the vehicles later. After collecting the money, suspect went into hiding.

A report was made to the police and suspect was apprehended after investigations.

He managed to refund an amount of GHc3,950 to the police and was remanded into custody to reappear on October 6, 2015.
