KATH security assaults visitor

Security officials at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi in the Ashanti region on Thursday brutally assaulted a visitor who had taken a patient to the facility.

The confrontation, according to the alleged victim, Alexander Amoah ensued after the security officials refused to allow his vehicle exit from the facility through the regular exit point.

“The people I went with were trying to plead with them on my behalf but they didn’t talk with them. I found out that my car was locked so I went to my booth and picked a jack to unlock the car but before I could realise, they had pounced on me and beating me up. Some jumped on my chest while others slapped me,” he alleged.

He added that another person who was with him was also attacked by the security officials.

But speaking to Starr News’ Ashanti regional correspondent Isaac Bediako Justice, the Public relations manager of the Hospital Kwame Frempong said the alleged victim was not manhandled by the security officials.

“When the security officials wanted to establish which of the gates he had used to enter the hospital, the confusion ensued and there was a misunderstanding. Out of anger, this gentleman walked out of his car, locked the door and walked away at the time he had blocked the main entrance to the hospital.

“...Later when he realised that his car had been clamped, he broke the clamp and then the security officials thought that they had to arrest him and hand him over to the police,” he explained.
