Koforidua, July 23, GNA - As part of the new strategies in the fight against crime, the Eastern Regional Police Command has sited six tents manned by police personnel with security gadgets at vantage points in Koforidua to serve as first points of contact for the public in case of any eventuality.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Stephen Andoh-Kwoffie, Eastern Regional Police Commander, who made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua, said apart from the tents, police patrols and snap checks had also been intensified to increase police presence in the town to wade off criminals.
He, therefore, appealed to the public not to take the increased police presence in town as a sign of harassment, adding that it was only criminals who felt intimidated when the police come around. The Regional Commander called on the public to cooperate with the police by volunteering information to ensure a crime-free society. DCOP Andoh-Kwoffie cautioned that the police would not hesitate to deal with any person or group of persons who tried to prevent the police from carrying out their lawful duties. He said the tents erected in parts of Koforidua would be replicated in all the districts soon to tackle the surge of robbery cases in the region.
On the issue of cultivation of "wee" plantations, he indicated that the police was alert and would destroy any such farms in addition to the prosecution of the owners. 23 July 09
