The Ashanti Regional Police Command has made significant strides in its fight against crime in the Kumasi metropolis, following the arrest of Issac Tetteh, 28, a well-known machoman at South Suntreso, a suburb of Kumasi by the Regional Police Striking Force Unit.

Tetteh has been linked to a serious of crimes, including armed robberies that have taken place in the metropolis. Assistant Superintendent of Police, George Ankomah, Commanding Officer of the Ashanti Regional Striking Force told the Times yesterday that the police acted swiftly upon a tip off and arrested Tetteh at his Suntreso residence at 11.50 am on Thursday.

ASP Ankomah said Tetteh's public display of a revolver last Thursday prompted someone to inform the police about the whereabouts of Tetteh which led to his arrest. A search in his room revealed very dangerous weapons such as a club fitted with nails, hammers, chisel, several cars and door keys, as well as talismans, which he claimed were for protection and for wooing girls.

A space phone starter pack was also found and when the police called the number on it, it happened to be one of Tetteh's robbery victims. The victim, Kwadwo Boateng, a businessman who happened to be at the Police Station, told the Times that about four months ago, armed robbers stole his Golf II saloon car with registration number AS1438G at Patase, a suburb of Kumasi.

On his way to report the incident to the police, he found the car parked in a plantain farm nearby, but his ?10 million car tape, speaker, the space-phone starter and the car keys were gone. He managed to push the car home and had since not been able to trace the robber. Last Friday, he said the police called him and so he rushed to the station. He has identified his car keys.

Meanwhile, the police had placed Tetteh on provisional charge of possessing fire arms without authority and preparing to commit crime, to wit armed robbery and subsequently arraigned before a circuit court last Friday. He was remanded into police custody to assist in investigations until September 23. ASP Ankomah said further charges would be preferred against Tetteh with Mr Boateng appearing as prosecution witness.
