A 19-year old labourer, Ibrahim Wahab, was on Thursday sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a seven year-old girl by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant, Sulemana Yakubu, is a night watchman and that he and the accused lived in the same neighborhood at Tanokrom, a suburb of Samreboi.

The Prosecutor said after the complainant later left the accused for work while his wife, Salamatu Sulemana and the children were asleep in one of the rooms.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said the complainant's wife, Salamatu, later informed the accused that she was going to attend to natures call.

She said the convict took advantage of her absence and sneaked into the room where the children were sleeping and had sexual intercourse with the complainant's 7 year-old daughter.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said the victim who could not endure the pain during the act, cried out loud and this drew the attention of Salamatu and when she rushed into the room only to see the accused having sex with the victim.

She said the complainant's wife raised the alarm which attracted her rival Fuseina Sulemana to the scene.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said Fuseina immediately left to inform the complainant of what has happened and together with some friends rushed to the scene but the accused on seeing them escaped.

He was, however, arrested at a nearby cocoa shed around the complainant’s house and handed over to the police.
