A 25 year-old labourer has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment after an Accra Circuit Court found him guilty of defilement.

Isaac Adu was said to have defiled a 10-year old girl at Lapaz.

Isaac earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge but after full trial he was found guilty by the court presided over by Miss Sedina Agbemava and sentenced accordingly.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Veronica Rexy Ofei told the court that the complainant, Abdul Karim is a Taxi driver and the father of the victim, while Isaac is a labourer and resides at Race Course near Lapaz.

She said Isaac used to play with the victim and other children within the area.

About three months ago the convict met the victim on her way home and without any cause lifted her and carried her on his shoulder to his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecution said no amount of cry from the victim could stop the convict from the act. After the act, Isaac warned the victim not to disclose it to anyone. However, she later informed her playmates.

She told the court that a week later the complainant heard the children discussing the matter, so he questioned the victim, who told him all that had happened.

Detective Chief Inspector Ofei said the complainant confronted the convict, and although he denied having had sex with the victim, he admitted taking her into his room to give her water.

She said Isaac was immediately arrested and handed over to the police at Tesano DOVVSU, a police medical form was issued and the victim was sent to the hospital for examination and treatment.
