A twenty-one-year-old labourer was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court for having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old-girl.

Ebenezer Quansah, alias “Osika,” pleaded not guilty to defilement.

Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu that the victim lived with parents at Asawasi whilst Quansah stayed at Atasomanso in Kumasi.

He explained that Quansah, who used to live at Asawasi visited his friends including the victim’s brother after his relocation.

On September 3, last year, at about 1300hours, victim entered their bathroom to wash down. Quansah, who was then in the house when all inmates had gone out took advantage and sneaked into the bathroom and forcibly had sex with the girl.

After the act, he threatened to kill the girl if she revealed it to her parents, which she obliged.

Two days later, the victim’s mother found blood stains on her dress and upon questioning, she told her mother about her ordeal.

Armed with this information, a formal complaint was lodged with the Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

Police issued a medical report form for victim to be sent to the hospital, where it was duly endorsed.

After further investigation, he was processed and put before the court.
