Labourer remanded for attempted robbery

Aaron Okaikwei Teye, a labourer, who attempted to snatch a caterer’s hand bag containing a mobile phone and personal effects valued at GH¢353.00 on Wednesday appeared before an Accra circuit court.

Teye and his two accomplices, now at large, have been accused of spraying some substances suspected to be pepper into Lucy Ayaba’s eyes during their operation at Manna Mission Junction at Teshie at about 11:40 p.m. on October 22, this year.

Charged with attempt to commit crime, to wit robbery, Teye has pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, remanded Teye into police custody to reappear on November 3.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Ernest Acheampong told the court that the complainant resides at Teshie Tsuibleoo while the accused person lives at Teshie-Akorwor in Accra.

Chief Inspector Acheampong said on October 22, this year, at about 11:40 p.m. Ms Ayaba was returning from work but on reaching the Manna Mission Junction, she was attacked by Teye and his accomplices, now at large.

According to the prosecutor, Teye and his accomplices subjected Ms Ayaba to severe beatings and attempted to snatch her hand bag containing her mobile phone, jackets and exercise book.

Chief Inspector Acheampong said the complainant, while struggling with Teye, one of his accomplices sprayed some substance suspected to be pepper into Ms Ayaba’s eyes and she raised the alarm.

Prosecution said a witness in the case, who lives within the vicinity, rushed to the scene and gave the accused and his accomplices a hot chase and Teye was arrested and handed over to the police whiles his accomplices escaped.
