The Amasaman Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mr G. J. Gbedi , has sentenced Doris Odame, a landlord, to a fine of Gh¢1,000.00 or in default three months imprisonment in hard labour.
The accused, accused of wilfully wrapping human excrete in polythene bag and dumping it in a public place, pleaded guilty.
According to the prosecution, Assistant Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mr Raymond Selassie Agbodo, the accused is a resident of Afiman, near Amasaman.
He said on June 13, environmental health officers found out that the accused had dumped human excrement and urine wrapped in a polythene bag in a public place, which could cause an epidemic, like cholera.
The accused person was notified of the offence but instead of clearing the nuisance, she became offended and insulted the health officer.
She was, therefore, issued with a summons to appear before the court.
The presiding magistrate, who expressed concern about the current outbreak of cholera in the Amasaman Municipality, warned that he would not spare any person brought before the court for committing environmental offences.
Meanwhile, bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of three chop bar operators who failed to appear before the court for environmental offences.
They are Evelyn Amehoew, Grace Abbey and Charity Agbemator.
