Lashibi armed robbers Jailed

Two persons, who were arrested by the Sakumono District Police for robbing a baker with cutlass at Lashibi near Tema, have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour.

The accused person, Anthony Dominic Mensah, 18, a student, Francis Dzisenu, 24, a baker pleaded guilty when arraigned before Tema Circuit Court A presided by Judge Kyei Baffour with Chief Inspector Adolf Otchere as the prosecutor.

The third suspect, a Nigerian, Michael Joseph Iddi, who was the gang leader, is currently at large

The three accused persons were said to have besieged a house at Lashibi with cutlasses and robbed the victim of his laptops, mobile phones and an amount of GHS700.

Chief Inspector Otchere narrated to the court that the accused persons on February 28, 2013 masked their faces with handkerchiefs at about 7am and besieged a house at Lashibi where they robbed the occupant of the items.

He mentioned that in the course of the robbery, the victim raised an alarm which attracted other neighbours who immediately rushed to the scene whereupon Anthony was arrested together with the laptops after a hot chase but the other two suspects managed to escape upon seeing the neighbours.

The prosecutor noted Anthony was taken to the Sakumono Police Station and during interrogation mentioned the names of Francis and Iddi as his accomplices, adding that Anthony later led police to the house of Francis where he was also apprehended.

He said Francis, who admitted the offence in his caution statement, further led police to the residence of the Nigerian, Iddi as the one who masterminded the operation but Iddi escape arrest upon police arrival.

The two suspects pleaded guilty to the offences when they appeared before the Tema Court where they have been sentenced 10 years on the conspiracy and 15 year on the robbery but the sentence is to run concurrently.
