Accra, Aug. 17, GNA - A staff of the University of Ghana, Legon, who defrauded a parent of four million cedis claiming that he could help in the admission of his child has been arrested by the Legon District Police Command.
Speaking to GNA, Deputy Superintendent of Police Michael Teku, who is in charge of the Legon District Police Headquarters, said the worker, whose name was being withheld for security reasons, approached the parents of one of the prospective students last month and demanded four million cedis to help his daughter to gain admission to read a degree course in Nursing.
He said the parent waited patiently for the admission letter to arrive, and when it was not forthcoming, he lodged a complaint with the University authorities.
The suspect has been released on a Police enquiry bail to enable further investigations to continue. The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Kwesi Yankah told the GNA that the University authorities had warned the general public to desist from paying money to anyone, who claimed he or she could assist prospective students to gain admission. 17 Aug. 06
