The Managing Director (MD) of Ashanti Technology and Solutions, Richard Nana Asare, accused of swindling a woman of her GH¢1,300.00 under the pretext of sending her to Brazil to watch the FIFA World Cup tournament, has appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court.

He was charged with defrauding by false pretence but he denied any wrong doing.

The court, presided over by Mr William Boampong, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢ 8,000.00 to make his next appearance on July 15.

Police Inspector Gulliver Kwabena Tenkorang said that the woman, Naomi Gyaw, is unemployed, and had met the accused at a prayer centre at Atwima-Kwanwoma last year.

Asare, in a chat, presented himself as a Member of Parliament (MP) who could help find her a job in the Ghana Police Service or any other public institution of her choice and she got excited.

The prosecution said the accused, in a later telephone conversation, told the lady to pay GH¢ 2,000.00 to be employed by the Ghana Immigration Service but Naomi was unable to raise the money.

He later convinced her to join a yet-to-be-launched political party - Miracle People’s Party (MPP), which he claimed was sending its supporters to Brazil.

Asare made her to fill out a membership form and collected GH¢ 1,300.00 to facilitate her travel but could not deliver on his promise.

A formal report was made to the police and he was arrested.
