Malian jailed for stealing Korans

Tarkwa (W/R), May 19, GNA - Ibrahim Kudiba, a Malian unemployed was sentenced to six years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing four Korans.

He was sentenced on his own plea. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah of Tarkwa Police said, the complainant in the case received a telephone call that somebody with some Holy Korans, some Islamic materials and other items had been arrested and it was suspected that the person stole them from a mosque.

He said on arrival to the scene the complainant saw the accused with the Korans.

When Kudiba was questioned as to where he got the Koran, he said, he bought them from Cote d'Ivoire.

Chief Inspector Asamoah said a witness in the case identified the accused as the one who stole his Koran on March 31, 2006 and was subsequently handed over to the Police.
