A 33 year-old young man was murdered in cold blood at dawn on Monday by unknown assailants at his residence in the Ashanti Region.
The victim, Isaac Antwi, was killed at about 01:00AM when some suspected armed robbers stormed his house in Atwima Nobahen which he cohabits with his wife and killed him in the process.
Narrating the incident to XYZ News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent Isaac Justice Bediako on Monday, the Regional Police Commander DCOP Augustine Gyening said the deceased’s wife who was at home during the attack narrated that the robbers demanded money from her after killing her husband.
Fearing for her life, the deceased's wife gave the suspected robbers an amount of GHS200. After taking the money, the attackers subsequently bolted with two pieces of cloths, leaving the woman unscathed.
DCOP Augustine Gyening however suspects the attack was a contract murder. He says the police have therefore commenced investigations into the incident and is urging the public to furnish the service with the needed information to bring the culprits to book.
In a related development, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has revealed that five suspects who reported to the Asawase District Police with gunshot wounds on the pretext that they had been attacked by armed robbers, may have been armed robbers who succeeded in tricking the police.
DCOP Gyening stated that the five who gave their names as Benjamin Akwasi Frimpong, Kingsley Appiah, Isaac Dufie, Kofi Sekyere and Reynold Antwi, reported to the Asawase District Police at about 11:00PM that they had been attacked near the Plaza Hotel at Dechemso on Friday, September 28.
Police then gave the victims forms to go to the hospital and report the next day to assist in the investigations. But according to DCOP Gyening, none of the victims has reported to the police station since they were treated.
He has therefore urged private and public health centres in the area to report any strange gunshot wound cases to the police as soon as possible.
