Man 35, jailed 23 years for defilement

Tarkwa (W/R), Oct. 29, GNA - Kwabena Darko, 35, a galamsey operator, resident at Kadadwen, a suburb of Nsuaem was on Thursday jailed 23 years by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling a 14-year-old primary four pupil.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Jonathan Adotey told the court presided over Mr John Ajet-Nasam that the victim is a pupil of Essaman Methodist School and resides at Essamang, a village near Nsuaem. Chief Adotey continued that on October 16, this year, the victim left home for church service at Kadadwen and on reaching the town, the accused, who was standing on his verandah called the victim and sent her to buy iced-water for him.

He said when the victim returned with the water, the accused had gone into his room, he then invited the victim in and forcibly had sex with her by covering her mouth to prevent hew screams from being heard. He had her three times, the prosecutor added. He said the accused after the act, gave the victim a toy water game and threatened her not to mention her ordeal to anybody otherwise he would kill her.

Chief Adotey added that, the victim kept the ordeal to herself until October 24, this year when she could not bear the pains in her thighs, vagina and her lower abdomen, confessed what happened to her mother. The mother upon examination found some darkish discharge from the victim's vagina and reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
