Tarkwa, May 18, GNA - A Circuit Court at Tarkwa on Tuesday sentenced Yaw Mensah Gyetuah, a 45-year-old Farmer to 22 years' imprisonment with hard labour for defiling an eight-year-old schoolgirl.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced on his plea. Police Chief Inspector Jonathan Adotey told the court presided over by Mr John Ajet Nasan that both the victim and the accused resided at Wassa Asuogya Krobo, a farming community, near Wassa Akropong. He said on May 6 2005, the victim fell sick and was rushed to the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
Chief Inspector Adotey said later the condition of the victim worsened and when her mother thoroughly examined her, she detected that her daughter had been sexually abused.
Upon interrogation the victim said Gyetuah had lured her into his room and defiled her on four occasions.
Chief Insp. Adotey said the victim's mother reported the matter to the Police. He said Gyetuah admitted the offence but said he had defiled her on two occasions and not four times as alleged by the girl.
