A Circuit Court in Accra on Tuesday sentenced a 50-year old vulcanizer to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a nine-year old girl at Chorkor, a suburb of Accra.
Abdulai Issifu’s conviction came after; the court had found him guilty on the charge of defilement at the end of the trial.
Issifu pleaded not guilty.
Prosecuting Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman Budu that the complainant is a trader residing at Chorkor with the victim.
Inspector Atimbire said the victim is the daughter of the complainant. At about 1630 hours on 10 January, this year, the complainant sent the victim to buy kenkey for her within the vicinity.
On her way, Issifu, lured the victim into his shop and had sex with her and warned her not tell anyone else she would die.
Prosecution said the victim therefore kept the ordeal to herself. However a few days later, she fell ill and her mother decided to bath her with warm water.
While doing so the victim’s mother detected that the victim’s vagina was ‘opened’ and asked her what happened?
Inspector Atimbire said the victim then let the cat out of the bag.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant rushed the victim to the hospital where the medical doctor advised the matter should be reported to the Police.
The complainant obliged and Issifu was arrested and medical form was issued to the victim for further medical examination and treatment.
