Man, 53, commits suicide in Sefwi Wiaso over failure to double money

A 53-year old worker of Adwumapa Cocoa Company Limited Opanin Owusu Agyei has committed suicide at Sefwi Wiaso in the Western region over a failed attempt to double money.

The deceased was duped by unknown men when he attempted to double money given to him by his employers to purchase cocoa beans.

After the fraudsters showed him double of his unspecified money which was packed in locally made sack referred to as ‘Ghana must go’, he was asked to buy ‘schnapps’ from the next street to be used to perform rituals only return to see empty spaces.

A restless and disappointed Opanin Agyei who could not stand the shame and a possible jail term should his superiors learn about his predicament decided to commit suicide.

A Journalist in the area Akonoba Akwasi Addai reported that the deceased’s body was found floating on the River Tano on Monday.

‘The wife said he told her of his ordeal and a night after the unfortunate incident threatened killing himself on Sunday, but she took it to for a joke. Only to find his body floating on the river after a search on Monday,’ he explained.

The body has been deposited at the Sefwi government hospital for autopsy.
