Man Jailed 10 Years For Defiling One-Year Old Girl

A man who defiled a none-year old girl has been jailed only 10 years with hard labour by a Cocoa Affairs Court Presided by His Highness Mr Kwadwo Owusu.

The man, James Amanor Addo, 37, and a mason was prosecuted by Inspector Ahor of the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Ghana Police Service, (WAJU), on Friday April 29, 2005. Narrating the incident to the Public agenda, the Station Officer of WAJU, Madam Rita Narh said the accused who is the grandfather of the victim, lives in the same family house with the victim and her parents at Banana Inn in Accra. Madam Narh said they complainant and the accused live next to each other and have one main door, which leads to their various bedrooms.

She said the victim's father had removed the bedroom door due to a misunderstanding between him and his wife, thus leaving a curtain hanging on the doorpost. The station officer explained that on April 19, 2005, at about 4.00am, the victim's mother left her half naked in the bedroom and was sweeping she heard her daughter crying out loud but thought it was one the baby's usual cries.

She however decided to go into the room to find out what was wrong when the daughters' crying had intensified. It was hen she met the accused coming from the main door. She found the daughter crying and as a result carried her to examine her vagina and allegedly saw bruises over there. The mother suspected Amanor Addo who might have had sexual intercourse with her daughter.

She therefore reported the incident to the Dansoman Police and she was issued with a police medical report form to send her daughter to the hospital for examination and treatment. Amanor Addo was subsequently arrested but he denied in his caution statement. While in court he pleaded for leniency saying that it was the devil.
