Man bailed A2100m for stealing two family vehicles.

Tema, June 16, GNA -- Ernest Kingsley Nortey, a construction technician who stole two vehicles belonging to a family member has been granted 100 million cedis bail with two sureties by the Tema Circuit Court 'B'.

Nortey, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft is to reappear on July 12, this year for trail.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court that, Nortey went to the Tema court unit office where Mrs. Agnes Sai, the complainant who is a police woman works and informed her that, he was a family member and that he had been rejected by one Frederick Nortey and Nuumo Narh Mensah, elder brothers of the complainant. The complainant, who happens to be the acting family head of Osuwem, Prampram offered to help him by employing him in addition to her two employees.

Complainant later bought an unregistered VW Golf from one Blankson Yaw which was to be registered in her name, stating that an unregistered Nissan Urvan bus was also purchased to be registered in Mr Narh Mensah's name.

Chief Inspector Nutakor said, during October last year, accused stole an air condition motor from the complainant's car with registration number GE 8299 U but with the help of one Mr Boakye it was recovered.

She said accused stopped visiting complainant at her home since the air condition issue strained their cordial relationship. In December last year, Nortey went to the complainant's house in her absence and collected the keys to the Nissan Urvan bus from the house- help and registered it and the VW Golf which was in his possession in his name after which he sold the bus to one Osofo for =A2120m.

Complainant reported the theft to the Tema Buffalo Unit when she detected it. When Nortey was arrested and charged with stealing, he petitioned the Attorney General (AG) and the Minister of Justice on his charge leading to the forwarding of the docket to the AG's Department for advice.

Chief Inspector Nutakor however, stated that, the police were advised by the AG to charge Nortey with stealing.
