Iggala Asare, a diamond winner, on Tuesday appeared before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court for stealing a five-year-old child.

The Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, said since the prosecution had not objected to bailing the accused, he was admitting him to bail of GH¢1,200 with two sureties to reappear on March 23.

Inspector D.T. Nartey told the court that both the complainant Gloria Wirenkyiwaa and Asare lived at Topremang in the Kwaebibirem District.

He said on February 7, the complainant gave her five-year-old daughter to a friend, Helen for her upkeep till she returned from trading.

He said around 2000 hours, Asare deceived Helen that Gloria’s father had asked him to come for the child.

Inspector Nartey said Asare then carried the child on his shoulders and bolted with her to Topremang Zongo where he was seen by a witness, Adams Moro, who became suspicious and asked him where he was sending the child at that time.

He said sensing danger, Asare put the child down and ran away, but Moro raised the alarm and a search party managed to arrest Asare and handed him over to the police.
