Man commits Suicide

Kuntanase, (Ash), June 10, GNA - A 34-year old farm labourer, Yaw Tawiah, a native of Kukuom in the Brong-Ahafo Region and resident at Kuntanase in the Bosumtwi-Atwima-Kwannoma District on Saturday committed suicide by blowing himself up with a single-barreled gun.

The tragic incident occurred after the deceased had beaten the wife and threatened to kill her and their six children.

Narrating the story to newsmen at Kuntanase, the wife Madam Adwoa Sraa, 35 said they had been together for about five years and had two children in addition to four step children.

She said in the early hours of Saturday, she told the decease that she was not well so the man went to farm alone and later in the afternoon, she decided to attend a funeral at Yaase-Adwafo, near Kuntanase.

She said some few minutes after her arrival at the funeral grounds, she saw the husband entering a drinking spot and so she also went in and saw him buying Akpeteshi and cigarette.

Madam Sraa said after smoking the cigarette, he called her and started beating her up, accusing her of leaving the young daughter at home to attend a funeral.

She said from there, they came home and when they arrived, the deceased took a cutlass and threatened to kill her and the children so she left the house and sought refuge in a nearby house.

She said some few minutes later she heard that the husband was going round with a gun looking for her and so she quickly rushed to the Police station to make a report

She said after the report, she went back to Yaase-Adwafo for her cloth she left behind when she was being beaten and returned only to be told that the husband had shot himself

Later in an interview, Mr Kwasi Badu, barman of the drinking spot, where the incident took place said around 1430 hours before the incidence, the decease came to the place and requested for Akpeteshi but he told him that it was finished.

He said the deceased, who look disappointed paid him 3,000 cedis he was owing him and told him to inform his wife to take good care of the children and then left the counter.

He said some minutes later he heard of the gunshot, near the spot and when they rushed to the scene, it was Tawiah who was lying in a pool of blood with the gun on his side.

He said a report was made to the Police, who came for the body and deposited it at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching hospital.
