Accra Nov. 3, GNA - An Accra circuit court on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year-old houseboy to five years imprisonment after confessing to stealing.
Seidu Mohamed, the accused, who had earlier pleaded not guilty changed his plea and told the court that he actually stole a Television set, a computer, a printer, a video deck and a meat grinder, which he sold out at Kotobabi, a suburb of Accra.
He said, "please have mercy on me I have been able to retrieved the Television and the Video Deck from the people, I am suffering from being in prison".
When the court asked him how much he sold the items, he said he got eight million cedis, which he shared with his friend. Seidu, who had earlier been charged with careless driving was rescheduled to appear on November 25, 2004.
According to the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Teye Boison, the boy who had just finished serving one prison term last week is the houseboy of one Mohamed Rashad Byrouthlty, a businessman.
On March 19 this year, Seidu, together with one Kwadwo also a houseboy took advantage of their master's absence from the house and stole the items. When he was arrested, he led the police to retrieve the TV set and the video deck and was charged after investigations. 3 Nov. 04
