Twenty-Five-year-old Cecilia Alevi, a factory hand with Baron Waterhouse Limited, a mineral water production firm at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, was bathed with acid by ex-boyfriend John Kwabena Amedorme, after she requested they end to their four-year romantic relationship.
On July 25, 2013, John, a remedial student, asked to speak with Cecilia after she had ended their relationship, and Cecilia thinking that he wanted to discuss something else, agreed to see him.
He visited her house at Henyuim Junction, a Dodowa suburb, at about 11:00pm and when she went out to talk to him, Kwabena bathed her with the acid and fled the scene to avoid arrest.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE about the incident, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, Dodowa District Police commander, noted that John after committing the crime fled the area causing the local police to circulate information nationwide about the crime.
The District Commander continued that John was later arrested at his hideout at Bonsu Nkwanta, a border town near Cote d’Ivoire from where he was transferred to Tafo Prankono in the Ashanti Region and finally handed over to the police in Dodowa, at the instance of Supt Kwesi Ofori. Incidentally, Tafo Pankrono was Supt Kwesi Ofori’s last station.
Cecilia and John, according to the Dodowa Police boss, had been in a relationship for about four years now, with Cecilia as the breadwinner. She reportedly shared her salary equally with the unemployed John and was said to have been the one who got him registered for the remedial school. John who schools in the Volta Region reportedly visited Cecilia at her base at Dodowa every two weeks.
Realising that nothing good was coming out of their relationship after four years, Cecilia, according to Supt Ofori, asked for an end to the relationship; something which did not go down well with John.
“John I am told went to Cecilia’s place on the night of July 25, 2013 and asked to talk to her and it was when she stepped out of her room to listen to whatever he came to discuss with her that he quickly poured the acid on her head,” Superintendent Ofori remarked.
He added that when she rushed to fetch water to wash her face, John, who perhaps felt jilted, again rushed to where Cecilia was and poured the rest of the acid on her back resulting in severe burns.
A report was made to the local police and after realising that John had fled the area, Supt Ofori stated that a manhunt for him was intensified which subsequently resulted in his arrest a couple of days at Bonsu Nkwanta.
Medics at Korle Bu, according to sources, are currently working hard to save Cecilia’s sight as the eyes are said to have been severely affected by the gruesome act by her ex-boyfriend.
Hearing has suddenly become a problem for the lady, who is said to have been admired by a lot of men for her beauty and complexion. A source hinted DAILY GUIDE that Cecilia now has to be touched on the body any time she has to be spoken to. Her face is completely burnt as well as her ears, neck and a greater part of her back.
John had since been arrested and placed in police custody. He will be put before a law court as soon as investigation into the incident is concluded.
