Winneba (C/R), Feb. 25, GNA - The Winneba District Magistrate's Court has fined Kwame Prempeh, a 27 year-old mason from Ansaful, near Winneba, 200 Ghana Cedis, for stabbing his brother over food. Kwame Prempeh who pleaded guilty would go to prison for 18 months if he fails to pay the fine. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Jacob Dziavor told the court presided over by Mr. Bennett Attabra that, Justice Andam, and the accused are brothers who live together at Ansaful near Winneba. Inspector Dziavor said on January 11, this year at about 2200 hours, the two went together to buy food to take home. He said moments later, the accused blamed the complainant for eating his food, and this led to a brawl. The court heard that, in the course of the brawl, Prempeh pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Andam twice in his stomach, making his intestines gush out. Inspector Dziavor said the complainant's shouts for help attracted sympathizers who rushed him to the Winneba Municipal Hospital from where he was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The court heard that the father of the two, Mr Kwesi Andam, lodged a complaint with the Winneba Police station and the accused was arrested.
