Man granted bail for defrauding a student of $3200.

Tema, Feb 10, GNA -- Mr Nicholas Mensah Abodakpi, Tema Circuit Court 'B' judge has granted James Andoh a 40 million cedis bail with one surety for allegedly defrauding Mr Osei Yeboah of 3,200 US dollars. He pleaded not guilty and he is to re-appear on February 24.

Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court that Mr Yeboah the complainant, a student and the accused who claimed to be a Managing Director of a company reside at the Regimanuel Estates.

The prosecutor said during the first week of June 2005, complainant's uncle introduced him to accused as somebody who could process travel documents to England and the United States. He said the accused demanded cash sum of 3,200 US dollars from complainant stating that, part of the money was to cater for the visa and the remaining for the plane ticket.

Inspector Agbenu said after complainant being convinced parted with the said amount, accused failed to fulfil his side of the bargain and went into hiding.

A report was made to the police by complainant and accused was consequently arrested.

The Prosecutor indicated that, in his caution statement, accused admitted committing the offence and pleaded for two weeks to refund the money to the complainant which he did not adhere to. He further said a police investigation revealed that, accused does not work in any company neither is he a managing director as he claimed earlier.
