Man jailed 10 years for fraud

Tarkwa, July 14, GNA - Francis Ato Clement Jnr has been jailed 10 years by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for committing three offences. The sentences were six years for two cases of stealing and four years for defrauding by false pretences. He was sentenced on his own plea

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Oscar Amponsah of Tarkwa police, said the complainant in the case was a safety officer of Goldfields Ghana Limited.

On 16 June, the convict went to the complainant's house during his absence and collected the ignition key of an Opel Astra private car belonging to the complainant from the house help under the pretext of repairing a faulty wiper.

He drove the vehicle to a border town in the Volta Region where he offered it for sale.

When the complainant returned from his trip, he reported the theft to the police who sent a wireless message throughout the country. The Dzodze police in the Volta Region spotted the convict with the vehicle, arrested him and escorted him to Tarkwa.

In the second case, Inspector Amponsah said the complainant George Ackah-Wilson who is a trader, requested the accused person to provide him with a metal container.

Inspector Amponsah said the convict charged the complainant 7,500,000 cedis and collected an advance payment of 3,700,000 cedis. He vanished and was arrested in the Volta Region.

In the third case the convict collected 2,000,000 cedis from one Mabel Boan under the guise of renting her kiosk but bolted with the money.
