Man jailed for stealing tyres

Half Assini (W/R), Sept. 26, GNA – The Half Assini district magistrate’s court has sentenced Kwame Ahinful, 55, of Jewi Wharf to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing eight slightly used tyres.

The court presided over by Mr Hanz Kofi Kpogo also ordered Ahinful to pay GH¢2,100 being cost of the tyres.

Police Inspector Kenneth K. Doe, told the court that on July 31, the accused came to see Madam Georgina Ansah from Jewi Wharf to ask of her husband, Mr Justice Moore, a Transport owner but he was not available.

Inspector Doe said the accused came again to see her and inquired of another person who was not known in the area and Madam Ansah replied that she did not know such a person.

He said the following day, the complainant woke up and realised that eight slightly used lorry tyres in the compound had been stolen.

Inspector Doe said the complainant traced the marks on the ground to Ahinful house’s where she saw one the missing tyres at the house.

He said when the woman questioned Ahinful about where he got the tyre and the whereabouts of the rest, he confessed that he took the tyres, had burnt them and used the metal strings in them for making sieves for fish smoking.

Inspector Doe said Madam Ansah reported the matter to the naval personnel at the Wharf who arrested Ahinful and handed him over to the Half Assini police for prosecution
