Breku (Ash), April 23, GNA - The Juaso police in the Asante Akim South District are on the heels of a 35-year-old farmer who is alleged to have beaten a neighbour, Kwaku Wiredu, to death at Breku near Asankare. The suspect, Kofi Siaw who is said to have beaten the deceased till he fell unconscious and was taken to the Juaso District Hospital, absconded upon hearing the news of Wiredu's death.

Detective Inspector Dominic Osei of the Juaso police told the Ghana News Agency that in the early hours of April 17, police received information from the Juaso District Hospital that a man who had been brought to the hospital the previous night had died but there was no family member to take the body.

He said police investigations led them to Breku where they gathered that the deceased had engaged the suspect in a fight the day before but could not ascertain the cause of the fight. According to Inspector Osei, no member of the family had made a formal complaint to the police but efforts were being made to apprehend the suspect.

A Unit Committee member at Breku, Muta Yakubu, told the GNA that the deceased was rather separating a fight between his uncle, one Agya Noah, and the suspect which enabled Noah to escape. Infuriated by the deceased's action, the suspect pounced on him and unleashed several hefty punches on him until he became unconscious. 23 April 09
