A marketing clerk of the Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC), has appeared before an Mpraeso Circuit Court, charged with stealing 32 bags of cocoa valued at GH¢6,560, belonging to his employers.
The marketing clerk, Samuel Omani pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted GH¢5,000 bail with one surety to reappear on the 16th of May, 2012.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Christian Apronti, told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei that, during the 2011/2012 cocoa season, the Nkawkaw Municipal Manager of the PBC limited gave an amount of GH¢44,075 to Omani, who was the Marketing clerk at Jamasi NO.1 office of the PBC to purchase 205 bags of cocoa for the company.
He said, the marketing clerk was able to purchase 173 bags of the cocoa leaving a balance of 32 bags worth GH¢6,560.
The prosecutor said all efforts made for Omani to account for the rest failed, and a report was made to the police for his arrest and after investigations, he was charged with the offence.
The prosecutor said in his caution statement, the accused said he gave some of the money to his agent to purchase some bags of cocoa for him, but that the agent failed to do so.
Inspector Apronti said, Omani had paid GH¢2,000 out of the amount and promised to pay the rest at the next adjourned date.**
