Marketing executive busted for illegal calls

Accra, Dec. 18, GNA - Harry Albert Kwarteng, a marketing executive, in Kumasi who unlawfully interfered with the Tigo post-paid lines to divert international calls into the country on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

He is charged with providing electronic communication service without license, contrary to section 73(1) of the Communication Act of 2008. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was admitted to a bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 with one surety to be justified. The case has been adjourned to December 30.

In September this year, the accused through Avkoy Blaze Company Limited owned by a witness in the case applied for 60 pieces of Tigo post-paid lines to be used by other Marketing Executives. Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo Mobile Services, granted t= he Tigo lines to Avkoy Blaze Limited after it had fulfilled all the requirements.

The accused person on receipt of the lines did not use them for the intended purpose but rather engaged in diverting illegal international ca= lls into the country through the Tigo lines. On October 19, the complainant lodged a complain with the Police and=

the accused was arrested. During interrogation the accused admitted having applied for the Tig= o lines but denied using them for illegal act.
