Married man stabs lover

Residents of Abura Abaka in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region were on Friday devastated by the news that a 44-year-old man, Jewel Nkum, had stabbed his 25-year-old girlfriend Josephine Asiedua, to death.

The lifeless body of Asiedua, also known as Ekuwa, had been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Jewel Nkum, who was arrested after the act, is languishing in the cells of the Abura Dunkwa Police.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the AAK District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum-Berimah said the incident happened early Friday morning around 1:35am when his outfit had information that a man had stabbed his girlfriend to death.

DSP Twum-Berimah stated that the police went to the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood while the suspect was nowhere to be found.

He added that after taking the body to the morgue, they had information that the suspect had reported himself to the Police at Darmang where he was staying with his pregnant wife and two children; and was consequently detained.

The police commander disclosed that when Nkum was interrogated, he said he had been in a relationship with the girl for some years and that his wife was even aware of it.

He pointed out that around 7:00pm on Thursday, Asiedua called him on phone to bring her some money since she was broke.

DSP Twum-Berimah explained that the suspect mobilized some money and went to Abura Abaka to give to his lover, and upon reaching the place, realized she was taking her bath.

The police commander said the deceased, after taking her bath, collected the money, and dressed up to go out, but the suspect warned her not to go.

DSP Twum-Berimah added that Asiedua went out in spite of the protestations of her lover, and left him in the room.

He said the suspect, in his statement claimed he waited for the deceased till 11:30pm and when she was not returning, he decide to go out and look for her, only to find her in another man’s room.

The police commander stated that the suspect forcibly brought the deceased back home where confusion ensued between them; and in a fit of anger, he took a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the chest and stomach three times, killing her instantly.

The suspect, who wept uncontrollably at the police station, said he even rented the room and furnished it for the deceased and did not know why he killed her.
