Residents and business owners in Nogsenia, a suburb of the Kasena/Nankana East municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region now live in constant fear after a recent surge in robbery attacks in the township by three masked men.

In the past few days, the township has witnessed widespread vicious attacks on residents, students and business owners by three masked men on a "TVS" motorbike at different locations within the municipality.

In the most recent attack late Monday night, two shops within the vicinity of the War Memorial Hospital were attacked and robbed at gunpoint by these armed robbers who made away with mobile phones, provisions and a cash amount of about Gh¢4,000.

On the same night, the armed robbers also attacked a student of the University for Development Studies, UDS at Namolo, another suburb of the Navrongo township who they had stalked from the UDS campus. According to the student (name withheld), he had to run away for his life after a fruitless battle with the machete-wielding trio when he realized he had been overpowered. They left behind his huge motorbike and made away with his laptop, mobile phone, external hard drive, pen drive and lecture notes.

"I closed from school and when I headed home from Perseverance Spot I realized I was being followed by some guys on a motorbike. To me, I thought they were ordinary people also going their way. But when we got to the Namolo around the offices of the municipal assembly, they caught up with me, blocked me with their motorbike and asked me to stop. They brought out machetes and after several attempts to resist their attack, I finally jumped off my motorbike. In the process, my bag containing my laptop, mobile phone, external hard drive, pen drive, lecture notes and other documents fell off and they took it and sped off with their headlights off. I've reported to the Navrongo Police Station," the student said.

Another businessman and wife (names withheld) who are operators of a popular retail and drinking spot in Navrongo were also attacked and robbed at gunpoint of their cash amount of Ghc3,000 and mobile phones by the same assailants the same night.

Confirming the report, Chief Inspector, A. K Danso said they have also received several other reported cases of unsuccessful robbery attempts on farmers plying the Naaga road. According to the chief Inspector, Navrongo is such a small town for robbery activities to thrive. He urged residents to remain calm and make available intelligence that will lead to the arrest of these criminals. He also added that Police visibility and intensive night patrols have been pushed a knob higher to weed out criminals.
