Nkawie (Ash), Sept. 19, GNA - A circuit court at Nkawie last Wednesday sentenced a mason from Asenemaso New Site near Abuakwa, in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for defilement.

Kofi Kumah pleaded guilty to defiling an 11-year-old iced water seller.

Police Inspector Robert Yitamkey told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that at about 13 hours on August 23 this year, Kumah asked the victim to follow him to his house to buy some of the iced water she was selling.

He said when they got to the house, the accused suddenly held the victim's hands and forcibly had sex with her after which he gave her 1,000 cedis.

Inspector Yitamkey said on reaching home, the victim informed her parents of her ordeal and they made a report to the Abuakwa Police who gave her a medical form to attend hospital.

He said the medical report on her indicated that the victim had been sexually assaulted and Kumah was arrested and charged with the offence.
