Mason remanded for assaulting pregnant wife

Tema, March 2, GNA - Samuel Zahson, a forty- year old mason, on Tues= day appeared before the Tema Circuit Court 'A' for assaulting his wife. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was remanded into police custody to re-appear on March 16.

The court presided over by Mrs. Laurenda Owusu, was told by the prosecutor Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, that on February 20, a misunderstanding arose between the accused and his wife, Hannah Annum. Chief inspector Otchere said the wife who was in advanced stage of pregnancy, was brutally beaten by the accused. He said neighbours in the area realized that the victim, who was experiencing abdominal pains, was in labour and immediately rushed her to=

the Tema General Hospital.

Chief Inspector Otchere said, a report was made to the police, and t= he accused was arrested and placed in custody.

The prosecutor told the court that whilst the accused was in custody= , the police had a tip-off that, he had in his room, a bottle containing dr= ied leaves suspected to be Indian hemp mixed with a local Gin, which he took as bitters. Chief Inspector Otchere said, after searching his house, the accused=

claimed ownership of the bottle and its contents, but would not disclose the source of the supply, when he was confronted with the exhibit.
