Mate stole palm oil and sold it to owner's wife

Kade, March 24, GNA - Kwabena Frank, 19, a driver's mate who stole four jerry cans of palm oil and sold them to the wife of the owner was on Wednesday sentenced to a fine of GHC 240 by the Kade District Magistrate Court.

In default Frank, who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for six months. Additionally, Frank was ordered to pay compensation of GHC 100 to the owner of the palm oil, Kwasi Koranteng.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Tetteh Zorh told the court that the complainant, a farmer, on February 27 bought and packed 44 jerry cans of palm oil in his house and travelled, leaving his family behind. He said on March 03, Frank entered the house and stole four jerry cans of the palm oil valued at GHC 60

The following day, he sold the palm oil to the complainant's wife at the same price.

The prosecutor said when the husband later realized that the convict had in fact stolen his palm oil which he sold to his wife, he lodged a complaint with the police and Frank was arrested. In a caution statement Frank admitted the offence and told the court that his mother was seriously sick so he decided to steal the palm oil to get money for treatment.
