Daniel Axim, a former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), is currently challenging his five-year prison sentence at the Supreme Court.

Daniel Axim, the convict and appellant, was tried together with the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MASLOC, Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, who was convicted in absentia and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Dissatisfied with his conviction and sentence, the former Head of Operations at MASLOC, in April 2024, through his lawyers led by Augustine Obour, filed an appeal against both the conviction and the sentence.

However, the appeal, which was initiated over a year ago, has stalled. This development prompted his lawyers to file an application for bail pending appeal, as he has already served nearly two calendar years of his five-year incarceration.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Amadu Tanko, admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000.

In addition to the bail sum, Daniel Axim is required to provide two sureties, one of whom must be justified with a landed property. He is also to report regularly to the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

The security for the bail must be a landed property valued at the bail sum and verified by a land surveyor.

The court further ordered that his passport be deposited with the Registrar of the Court and that he report every two weeks to the Registrar.

The Registrar is to keep records of his reporting times and issue a certificate if he fails to report for three successive weeks.

Meanwhile, the apex court panel which also includes Justices Samuel Asiedu, Senyo Dzamefe, Philip Bright Mensah, and Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo directed the Registrar of the High Court to transmit the records of proceedings to the Registrar of the Court of Appeal within one month.

The bail application, moved by Lawyer Augustine Obour, was opposed by Hilda Craig, a Principal State Attorney, who was led by Winifred Sarpong, a Chief State Attorney.

On April 16, 2024, Daniel Axim and Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu were found guilty by the Financial and Economic Division of the High Court, presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, on all 78 counts, including willfully causing financial loss to the Republic.

The charges included conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the state, causing loss to public property, improper payment of public funds, unauthorized commitment resulting in financial obligations for the government, money laundering, and contravention of the Public Procurement Act.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has since been arrested and detained in the United States.

In a statement issued on January 15, 2026, and signed by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Victor Smith, it was disclosed that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by U.S. Marshals on January 6, 2026.

The statement further indicated that she is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre, located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue, Pahrump, and is awaiting her day in court.
