Mother and daughter remanded for causing harm

A Takoradi Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded a 52 year old mother, Comfort Biney and her 22 year-old daugther, Elizabeth Obeng, for intentionally and unlawfully causing harm with an offensive weapon.

Comfort was charged with two counts of unlawfully causing harm and intentionally and unlawfully causing harm with an offensive weapon, whilst Elizabeth was charged with unlawfully causing harm.

Their pleas were not taken.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Veronica Tibson told the court presided by Mr Justice Kwesi Boakye that Comfort, a farmer, is the mother of Elizabeth, a hairdresser and an in-law of the complainant Richard Annobil, a 32-year old driver.

She said the accused and the complainant lived at Kejebil in the Ahanta West District.

The prosecution said Annobil and Elizabeth lived together as couples for 6 years and had a son.

Chief Inspector Tibson said Annobil realised that Elizabeth was flirting with other men and cautioned her and made several complaints to Comfort but it fell on deaf ears.

She said Comfort rained insults on Annobil and threatened to beat him up if he makes such complaints to her again.

Chief Inspector Tibson said on January 16th and 17th this year, Comfort slept outside her marital home, and when Annobil was unable to locate his wife, he decided to report to Comfort who got infuriated and sacked him from the house.

Chief Inspector Tibson said on January 18th, Comfort and Elizabeth forcibly entered Annobil’s room, packed Elizabeth’s belongings and took them away.

She said Annobil’s family tried to resolve the issue amicably but their Interventions proved futile.

Chief Inspector Tibson said around 0021 hours that day, Annobil went to the house of Comfort and Elizabeth for his GHc400.00, which they took away when Elizabeth was leaving her marital home.

She said Annobil was welcomed by his five year old son when he arrived at the house, but Comfort approached him and pushed him to the ground.

Chief Inspector Tibson said Elizabeth and Comfort teamed up and assaulted Annobil and in the process Comfort went for a sharp knife and inflicted multiple wounds on his face.

Annobil managed to escape and reported the incident to the Police who issued him with a medical form for treatment at a hospital.

She said the accused persons admitted the offence in their cautioned statements to the Police.
