Mother arraigned for exposing child to danger

A chop bar assistant , Aisha Mumuni was on Thursday arraigned at an Accra Circuit court for exposing her child to danger.

Aisha was said to have concealed her day old child in a polythene bag and dumped him in a bush around MTN head Office at Ridge in Accra.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge and is to reappear before the court presided over by Madam Sedinam Agbemevaon on September 4.

Prosecuting, Deputy Inspector of Police, Kofi Atimbire told the court that the complainant is a 39 year old man, who lives at Ridge in Accra, while the accused person is 25 years, a mother of three, including the baby, and lives in the same vicinity with the complainant.

He said on August 10, the accused person gave birth to a baby boy, concealed him together with the placenta in a polythene bag and dumped him in a bush.

He said on August 11, at about 0630 hours, the complainant attended natures call in the said bush and heard the cry of a baby. He combed the area and found the polythene bag containing the baby.

The prosecution said the complainant became alarmed and called for help which attracted other people to the scene.

Deputy Inspector of Police, Atimbire said the baby was then rushed to the Ridge hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

He told the court that Aisha, who was known in the area to be pregnant, left for an unknown destination.

He said the complainant, who suspected foul play, traced Aisha to her hide out at the Movinpick Hotel area, and found her without the pregnancy.

He arrested her and sent her to DOVVSU where she admitted the offence in her caution statement.
